DJ Taster Workshop

Ever wanted to DJ? We’re bringing you a chance to spin your favourite records with RepresentAsian

Asian Arts Agency, a dynamic arts development agency who develop, promote and support international contemporary and traditional South Asian music and arts is partnering with RepresentAsian, the podcast and clubnight championing South Asian DJs and promoting diversity in nightlife across the UK to hold a DJ Taster Workshop

Hosted by DJ Yusuf Suave, the session will provide a space for South Asian participants to learn about the diaspora’s contributions to the UK music scene, understand the decks, learn new techniques and see what the world of DJing is all about.

This is a taster session and requires no previous mixing ability.

Sessions will take place on Saturday 5th August at Pirate Studios, Bristol:

  • 1300 – 1500
  • 1600 – 1800

If you would like to join, please apply here by Sunday 23rd July 2023. Please note, places are limited so please don’t apply if you’re unable to attend.

RepresentAsian’s teachers:

Yusuf Suave (co-founder of RepresentAsian) began DJing in Bristol as The Sultan back in 2009. After a back-to-back set with Roni Size at Bristol Beacon, he quickly made a name for himself playing regularly across Bristol, Manchester and London, as well as numerous festivals. Alongside his Top Rankin’ night and radio show on SWU FM, he’s also appeared on 1Xtra, KISS FM and BBC Asian Network.

For promotional purposes

RepresentAsian is partnering with the Asian Arts Agency to offer tailored taster DJ workshops, to tackle the under representation of DJs from the South Asian community.  We are looking to inspire, engage, educate and introduce South Asian people in Bristol to the art of DJing with in-person taster workshops.  This is an opportunity for you to gain historical knowledge, best practices and values of the DJ scene as well as some practical, hands-on time with the decks in a studio environment.

We are welcoming applications from anyone between the ages of 18-30 and from the South Asian community living in Bristol or within a 10 mile radius.
