Bhangra Facedances

Everyones face dances when they listen to music. In 2009, the Asian Arts Agency commissioned a new project with artist Jonathan Stone to create a collection of video portraits of people’s faces “dancing” while listening to Bhangra music.

Some faces were still, some energetic, some self-conscious, and some exuberant – each portrait a glimpse into someone’s face dancing personality.

We worked in partnership with Watershed and in all, 95 Facedances were recorded in January 2009 and then shown in the Bristol Library, on the BBC Big Screen, and at Watershed during February and March. This was part of the Agency’s ongoing Bhangra Project. The project is also archived on Watershed’s DShed Website.
