Digital premiere of an enchanting sarangi concert performed by Surjeet Singh & Sanju Sahai.

With accompaniment from the taus and tanpura.

Surjeet Singh is a UK based sarangi player who learnt the art  of sarangi  from the acclaimed sarangi master Pundit Ram Narayan Ji. Surjeet Singh has performed with critically acclaimed artists including Ustad Fateh Ali KhanUstad Salamat Ali Khan and Shri L K Pundit. His music has been featured on various Channel 4 programmes. Surjeet Singh is dedicated  to sharing the art of sarangi and Indian classical music.

Sanju Sahai is one of the finest and most sought-after contemporary tabla players. Belonging to the Benares gharana, Sanju has performed internationally at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House and The Royal Albert Hall. He has accompanied many legendary musicians including Pandit Hari Prasad ChaurasiaUstad Vilayat Khan Saheb and Ustad Shahid Parvez.

The sarangi is a three-melody string instrument used particularly for folk and Hindustani classical music. The sarangi is said to be the instrument that most closely resembles the human voice.  The taus, a large instrument with movable frets, is played with a bow and emerged from the Punjab.  The tanpura is a reference chord instrument used in Indian classical music.

This digital concert will premiere on Friday the 11th of February, 8pm. It will be available online for 5 days.
