Asian Arts Agency presents an evening of Indian classical music with one of Europe’s finest sitar players Roopa Panesar.
Roopa Panesar is regarded as one of the leading sitar players on the Indian music scene and is a disciple of the renowned educationalist and leading musician, Ustad Dharambir Singh ji MBE (a disciple of the legendary Ustad Vilayat Khan). Panesar takes great inspiration from Ustad Vilayat Khan and the Imdadkhani gharana North Indian sitar style.
With the incredible emotional depth of her sound, Panesar has touched the hearts of audiences far and wide. Panesar has toured extensively in the UK and Europe, performing at major festivals and prestigious venues, including WOMAD UK, Royal Festival Hall London, Brighton Festival, Darbar Festival at South Bank Centre, Birmingham Symphony Hall and Colston Hall Bristol.
Experience Panesar’s virtuosity and deep interpretations of ragas, accompanied by one of the UK’s most exciting tabla players, Gurdain Rayatt. Trained both in the UK and India, his performances range from traditional Indian classical music to cross-cultural and experimental music. Rayatt regularly performs with the world’s best Indian classical musicians, including Anoushka Shankar and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.
Presented by Asian Arts Agency in association with Anvil Arts, Basingstoke.
