Seriously hot, larger- than-life, Brooklyn based dhol 'n' brass band who returns to the UK this July!
Asian Arts Agency is proud to work with WOMAD UK to present RED BARAAT:Â The nine piece band led by dhol drummer Sunny Jain consists of dhol, drums, percussion, a sousaphone and a five piece horn section. The band fuse the infectious North Indian rhythms of bhangra with funk, jazz, Latin and go-go and their sound is big, brassy and full of energy.
Their latest album, Gaadi of Truth, maintains many of their propulsive and uplifting musical elements that fired their first two albums, 2010’s Chaal Baby and 2012’s Shruggy Ji – which led NPR to famously dub Red Baraat “the best party band in yearsâ€. But it also brings new, deeper levels both instrumentally and conceptually to the band’s music, expanding to embrace digital and electronic flourishes alongside the band’s original acoustic underpinnings.
They will be joining a host of incredible bands at WOMAD’s UK Festival in Charlton Park, including De La Soul, Laura Mvula, Souad Massi, and many, many more. WOMAD is a three day festival from the 23 – 26th July 2015.
