Asian Arts Agency presents a PunjabTronix electronic set at Bristol's Encounters Film Festival 2018.

Featuring DJ Swami, John Minton and special guest Sunil Kalyan.

DJ Swami’s live electronic drum machines, synthesizer arpeggios and basslines are layered with the powerful distinct rhythms and melodies of the Punjab, synchronised with John Minton’s visual projections of original digital animations and cinematic Punjabi imagery.

The captivating performance features a number of traditional Punjabi folk songs, such as ‘Jugni’, ‘Heer’ and ‘Challa’, reimagined for PunjabTronix. Electronic beats, Punjabi melodies and stunning live visuals will combine with a range of live Indian percussion instruments, including tabla, dhol and dholak, to produce an exciting new musical and visual experience.

Watch PunjabTronix on its UK tour in 2017:

DJ Swami is an award winning British Indian producer and musician who has been described as a ‘visionary pioneer’ (BBC Music), producing work with Apache Indian and twice winning the Best Producer Award at the UK Asian Music Awards.

Bristol-based filmmaker, John Minton, is known for his experimental, lo-fi and hallucinatory style. John’s distinctive flair has lent itself to music videos and live visuals for Noel Gallagher, Portishead and Savages amongst others.

The performance will also feature special guest artist Sunil Kalyan, a master percussionist who has won Best Musician at the UK Asian Music Awards many times, and has worked with all the biggest names in Punjabi music, including Alaap and The Dhol Foundation.
