Debashish Bhattacharya brings universal appeal to his inventive fusion of classical Indian ragas and bluesy Western music.

Embracing Hawaiian slide guitar from his childhood in the 1960s, Debashish has pioneered a unique style of Hindustani slide guitar and gained global recognition, mesmerising audiences and artists for over four decades with his unique blend of Indian ragas and western styles.

Twice Grammy nominated, a Songlines and BBC award winner, Debashish has collaborated with many world renowned musicians, including Ravi Shankar, Zakir Hussain, John McLaughlin, Jerry Douglas and Derek Trucks.

INVENTOR OF HIS OWN SLIDE GUITARS

Debashish has also invented his own hollow neck slide-guitars (the 24-string chaturangui, the 14 string gandharvi and the anandi, a 4-string lap steel ukulele), which are unique to his compositions.

TABLA ACCOMPANIMENT FROM SANJU SAHAI

Sanju Sahai is one of the finest and prestigious tabla players of his generation. An international artist, Sanju is the 6th generation of tabla player in the Benares Gharana lineage, stretching back over 200 years. Sanju has accompanied many Indian legends including Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia (bansuri) and Ustaad Amjaad Ali Khan.

The concert will begin with a performance from Bristol based Carnatic vocalist and Veena player Durga Ramakrishnan.

Durga is an accomplished Carnatic musician and has performed throughout India and the UK. Durga also leads workshops in Indian music and culture and teaches Carnatic Vocal and instrumental Veena to all age groups. The Veena is a popular string instrument in classical Carnatic music.
