Punjabtronix is a new music project, commissioned and produced by Asian Arts Agency in partnership with Watershed, Bristol, to promote international collaborations between artists from England and India to respond to Reimagine India 2017.
Reimagine India is a cultural exchange programme designed to develop creative collaborations between art and cultural organisations in England and in India, as part of the 70th anniversary celebrations of India’s Independence taking place in 2017.
Punjabtronix will feature a new live collaboration between established British-Indian electronic music producer Swami and traditional Punjabi folk musicians, synchronised with unique live mixed digital video projections.
Expect a live mix of electronic dance music with Punjabi dhol drums, vocals, traditional sarangi and tumbi stringed instruments and the hypnotic sounding double flute algoza – traditional melodies interacting creatively with live electronic drum machines, synthesiser arpeggios and basslines layered with the powerful distinct rhythms and melodies of the Punjab.
Using analog synthesisers, laptop digital sequencers, remote MIDI controllers synchronised with visual projections of original digital animations morphed with cinematic Punjabi imagery, Punjabtronix is a cutting edge experience of technology and British electronic music – connecting, exploring, improvising and conversing with the raw energetic DNA of Punjab – culminating in an exciting new musical and visual experience.
The Punjabtronix residency will take place in India in February 2017 and UK tour dates will be announced soon.
